The Autobiography of Malcolm X as told to Alex Haley
Why I Chose This Book
I can’t come up with a better reason than “I just really wanted to read it.” It was recommended to me, it is critically acclaimed, it covers a fascinating subject matter, and it will probably shift my perspective as a white person. All of those were great reasons to start, as I’m always looking to get schooled and learn something.
About This Book
Quite self-explanitory, this is the autobiography of Malcolm X, and if you don’t know who he is you should go find out right now. It chronicles his youth, his life living around the country, and his rise through the ranks of Islam in America.
Thoughts
I found the change in perspective and ideology throughout the pages fascinating, and Malcolm X’s shift in worldview throughout the whole book really proves how much a person can change themselves for a greater cause. This book provides a necessary picture of black history in America, Islam, and many issues of race that many are often too uncomfortable to talk about. It starts a conversation and left me with more questions than when I started.
Notable Quotes
